Prescribing, stated plainly

What we will and will not prescribe.

Our clinicians are PMHNP-BCs with full California prescriptive authority, including Schedule II controlled substances. When ADHD is the diagnostic conclusion, stimulants are on the table.

We do not prescribe controlled substances on a first visit as a default rule. Our standard practice is to complete a thorough evaluation, review prior records where they exist, and start a controlled substance at a follow-up rather than on day one. Exceptions exist when the clinical picture clearly warrants it. Your clinician will explain the reasoning behind every prescribing decision, including a no.

We do not prescribe benzodiazepines for chronic anxiety. Refills are sent as a 30-day supply with enough refills to bridge to your next scheduled follow-up; controlled substances are never auto-refilled.

If you are looking for a same-day stimulant prescription, we are not the right practice, and we would rather you know that before you book than after.

Coverage

In-network with the major California payers.

Our contracts are statewide, so they apply the same in Sacramento as anywhere else in California. Co-pay is typically $20 to $50 depending on your plan. We verify your specific plan within 24 hours of booking and email you the result before your visit.

  • Aetna
  • Anthem Blue Cross
  • Blue Shield of California
  • Cigna
  • Optum
  • Oscar
  • UnitedHealthcare

Kaiser plans are out-of-network. We can provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement.

How care runs

Sixty minutes first, then the same clinician every time.

Your first visit is a full hour, because a fifteen-minute intake cannot tell the difference between the diagnoses that matter. Follow-ups are twenty minutes, and they are with the person who did your evaluation. How it works →

Questions

Common questions from Sacramento.

Can I be seen in person in Sacramento?

A clinician travels to 1201 J St, Suite 200 for booked visits, so being seen at this address is possible, but it is by appointment only. There is no walk-in desk and no one is there between appointments. In practice the great majority of our care in Sacramento County is delivered by video, which is usually sooner and easier for the patient. If being seen in person matters to you, say so when you book.

Do you prescribe ADHD medication in Sacramento?

Yes, when ADHD is the diagnostic conclusion after a full evaluation. Our clinicians hold California prescriptive authority for Schedule II controlled substances. We do not prescribe stimulants on a first visit as a default rule: the standard is a thorough evaluation first, then a controlled substance at follow-up if it is indicated. We do not prescribe benzodiazepines for chronic anxiety.

Do you take my insurance in Sacramento?

Our payer contracts are statewide, so they apply in Sacramento exactly as they do elsewhere in California. We are in-network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, Optum, Oscar, and UnitedHealthcare. Kaiser is out-of-network; we can provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. We verify your specific plan within 24 hours of booking and email you the result before your visit.

How soon can I be seen?

The booking calendar shows real first-visit availability, not an estimate, and it is the same calendar our clinicians work from. First visits are sixty minutes. Follow-ups are twenty minutes with the same clinician who did your evaluation.

What should I do if I am in crisis in Sacramento County?

Feel August is an outpatient practice, not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For urgent mental health support, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or call (916) 875-1055 for the Sacramento County Mental Health Access Team, which operates 24 hours a day.
